Netflix Nut Tatoos Company Name On His Stomach

Posted: 10 Mar 2013 08:24 AM PDT

We know that fans can do extreme things in pursuit/memory/dedication to their heroes. But for an internet TV service? Seriously? Yes seriously I am afraid to report, that one nut has decided to have the Netflix name tattooed onto his skin, as a permanent reminder that internet TV rocks.

Netflix-tatooThe guy concerned is called Myron Robinson, who had the permanent branding inked, and then sent a photo of the tattoo to Netflix. They promptly gave the guy a free years subscription to the service.

Although Robinson was obviously happy with the result, tweeting, “Netflix just made my year.” Many think that Netflix should have ignored the guy, as rewarding his effort may open a real can of worms and bring more nutcases to the fore.

Some people are predicting a wave of tattoo or other self mutilations that will get sent by fans, hoping to get a gift or recognition. On the other hand some people think Netflix were too mean, and should have given the man a lifetime subscription instead!

Considering that a Netflix subscription is $7.99 monthly, and a tattoo must have cost a few months payments. We think the return on investment for Robinson was not the best.

I’m just off now to get a Youtube tattoo on my forehead.

Google Announce Android OS Usage Stats

Posted: 10 Mar 2013 01:19 AM PST

The internal race to be the most popular Android operating system is presumably a moot point due to having the same people working on each one, but Google have revealed the latest statistics on which of their versions have the most presence on the mobile device market at this current point in time.

android_jellybean_statueIt was revealed that the latest two versions, the Android ‘Jelly Bean’ (v4.1/4.2) and ‘Ice Cream Sandwich’ (v4.0) now have a larger share than the previously-dominant ‘Gingerbread’ (v3.3).

The current figures for the three were noted as 16.5%, 28.6%, and 44.2%, respectively, though version-wise it is recognised that the combined powers of v4.0 onwards (45.1%) now have a presence on devices worldwide just below that of v3 (Gingerbread and ‘Honeycomb’) offerings (45.4%, though 44.2% as Gingerbread-only).

The new versions, however, will be pleased with their reach, with their current combined total representing a large movement forward since running 39.3% of all Android smartphones and tablets in January.

Rounding out the figures, the remainder of the alphabetical sweet treat-based systems (‘Doughnut’, ‘Eclair’, ‘Froyo’, and Honeycomb (representing v1.6 and above)), are responsible for a collective 10.9%, a figure likely to naturally decrease as the years go by, particularly with v5.0 (‘Key Lime Pie’) set to be released this spring.

Meanwhile, with the Jelly Bean mobile operating system being taken up at a naturally faster rate than its direct predecessor, how long will it be before the ‘internal internal battle’ of v4 is discussed by the Google Android team in this measure of statistics?

3D Content From ESPN3D and 3net Comes To Google Fiber

Posted: 09 Mar 2013 01:22 AM PST

If you’re one of the select few subscribers to Google’s Fiber cable service, you can now get a 3D fix, as it has been announced that ESPN3D and 3net are available for the service.

Google-Fiber-3DSubscribers to the $120 per month Gigabit + TV plan already get over 200 2D channels, and now can receive the 3D channel 3net at no extra cost. The channel offers a selection of entertainment shows in eye popping 3D. For sports fans looking for some third dimension action will have to fork out an additional $5 per month to watch ESPN3D.

The experimental Google Fiber service was launched last summer in selected Kansas city areas, as an extra to Google’s Gigabit Internet service. The service offers ultra fast Internet of 1 gigabit per second for $70 monthly, with additional IPTV included for $120 per month.

On top of that, subscribers get a 500 hour DVR facility with the ability to record eight shows at once, in 1080p high-definition format. So why the addition of 3D content?

Larry Yang, Google’s head of product management points to the huge capacity of the service saying, ”Thanks to the amazing capacity of Fiber, we can also include some new experiences and tools that will make watching TV even cooler. For example, 3D channels.”

Subscribers may need to invest in some 3D hardware to watch the additional content, but anyone paying that much per month must own a 3DTV already, right?
